Community Gardens are beneficial to the environment, provide health and well-being for volunteer gardeners, and offer a great way to meet neighbors. The Village of Mamaroneck is fortunate to own a Community Garden site that is situated between the Sheldrake River (to the south), I-95 (to the north), Fenimore Road (to the west), and the corner of Grand Street and Plaza Avenue (to the east). The Community Garden can be accessed on foot either at Bub Walker Park near the corner of Grand Street and Plaza Avenue or just east of Fenimore Road and south of the I-95 overpass.

Renee Crabtree, a member of the Village of Mamaroneck’s Committee for the Environment (CFTE), is the contact person for the Community Garden. There are 12 garden plots (each one measuring approximately 30 square feet). At this time, all the garden plots have been assigned. (Keep an eye on this webpage to see when garden plots become available.) As the weather gets warmer, the Parks Department and Department of Public Works help to clean-up the area as well as provide it with water and soil.

Village of Mamaroneck residents can develop, maintain, and cultivate their own plot while also fostering a genuine sense of community. Gardeners are asked to:

  • avoid planting invasive plants.
  • take care when using sprays or applying powders for insect or disease control and to confine their application to your individual plot.
  • clean up around your plot.
  • avoid bringing in food that would attract animals.
  • remember to close the gate.
  • notify Renee Crabtree if you see evidence of vandalism or if the water tanks are empty.

While each garden plot is free, registration is required on a first-come, first-serve basis. Priority for plot allocation will be given to returning gardeners, followed by those on the Wait List. Preference of garden plot assignments will be given to Village of Mamaroneck residents, returning gardeners, followed by those on the Wait List until the first or second Friday in April (check the Village's online calendar or E-Newsletter for exact date). After this date, garden plots will be given to non-Village of Mamaroneck residents. Returning gardeners should specify which garden plot they used last season. If you are interested in developing a Community Garden plot, please contact Renee Crabtree at rcrabtree@vomny.net.
